Taks — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 1 August 2026 · Applies to the Android application “Taks”

1. Who is responsible for this app

Taks is developed and published by an independent developer based in Estonia (“the developer”, “we”). Contact for any privacy questions: alexander.chelpanov@proton.me.

Because the app is designed so that no personal data ever reaches the developer, we do not act as a processor of your data in the ordinary course of the app’s use. The data described below stays under your control, on your device.

2. Data the app works with — locally on your device

• Electricity consumption data — your hourly/quarter-hourly meter readings, imported either from a CSV file you export yourself from the e-elering portal, or fetched directly from Elering’s consumer data service using a personal API key that you create in your own e-elering account.
• Your e-elering API key (optional) — stored on the device in encrypted storage backed by the Android Keystore. It is never logged, never included in backups, and never transmitted anywhere except to Elering’s own service, where it originated.
• Electricity package definitions and contract details you enter (rates, margins, monthly fees, contract dates).
• App settings (language, theme, alert thresholds).

All of the above is stored in the app’s private storage on your phone. It is not synced, uploaded, or shared. Uninstalling the app, or using “Delete all data” in Settings, permanently removes it.

3. What the app does not do

• No user accounts and no registration.
• No analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting SDKs, or advertising SDKs.
• No access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or files outside the ones you explicitly pick for CSV import.
• No sale, sharing, or transfer of any data to third parties — we have nothing to share.

4. Network connections

The app communicates with exactly three services:

• dashboard.elering.ee — public Nord Pool electricity price data, operated by Elering AS, the Estonian transmission system operator. These requests contain no personal information.
• Elering’s consumer data service (Estfeed / e-elering) — only if you choose to connect your own API key. These requests carry your API key and metering point identifier to Elering in order to retrieve your consumption history. This is a service relationship between you and Elering, governed by Elering’s own terms and privacy documentation.
• raw.githubusercontent.com — a static, public JSON catalogue of electricity package prices, maintained by the developer in a public GitHub repository. These requests contain no personal information and no identifiers from the app; GitHub (operated by Microsoft) may process your IP address to deliver the file, as any content-delivery service does — see the GitHub Privacy Statement.

No other network connections are made by the app.

5. Purchases

The optional “Taks Pro” upgrade is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Payment details are processed by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy; the developer never sees your payment information. The app only stores a local record that the purchase is active.

6. Permissions the app requests

• Internet — to fetch prices and, optionally, your consumption data from Elering.
• Notifications — to show local price alerts and contract reminders. All alert logic runs on the device; notifications are generated locally.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Because your data in Taks never leaves your device, you exercise these rights directly: you can view, edit, export (CSV) and delete everything inside the app itself. For data held by Elering (your metering data at its source), please contact Elering, which acts as an independent controller of its own services.

8. Children

Taks is a household utility tool and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly process any data of children — or, by design, of anyone else.

9. Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes any of the practices above (for example, adds a new network endpoint), this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
